Description

Caraway is a biennial grown primarily for its tasty, aromatic seeds, but there are so many other great reasons to grow this plant! The leaves and flowers are edible and taste a bit like parsley. Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars adore the feathery foliage. White umbel flowers are attractive and call in the pollinators.

Easy to grow in full sun in well-drained, moist, rich, sandy loam.

Carum is an excellent alternative to Foeniculum (fennel) in very cold gardens where Foeniculum may be cut down by frost before the seeds have a chance to ripen. The anise-flavored seeds of Carum ripen very early so you never have to worry about missing a harvest.
