Description

Zaffiro is an Italian variety that was originally from the collection of Fig Art by Nikky. This fig is especially desirable for those with short growing seasons because it ripens quickly. Some have noted that Zaffiro is able to move from swelling to fully ripe and black within 5 days. The variety is also resistant to detachment or splitting from the tree during heavy rains–another bonus for northern gardeners. Zaffiro is a honey fig, but unlike others in its class, it maintains its honey flavor and thicker texture even in colder climates that are dissimilar from its Mediterranean native area.

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they’ve turned into our most impressive trees.

Rooted Cuttings(Spring):

We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA’s or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
