The Midwest native Solidago drummondii is found at home on alkaline rock cliffs and ledges in the Ozark Mountain region. Unfortunately, a taxonomist who sniffed too much herbarium dust has lumped it in with the Southeast native Solidago rugosa, which is a completely different plant. This tight clump-former makes a 18″ tall x 3′ wide ball of arching stems, covered in September with sprays of golden-yellow flowers.
