Description

Peperomia maculosa ‘Vanilla’ is a captivating cultivar distinguished by its large, glossy green leaves with pronounced veins that are a creamy colour.

Native to

This cultivar is derived from Peperomia maculosa, a species native to tropical regions of North and South America, particularly from Mexico to northern South America. In its natural habitat, it thrives as an epiphyte under the forest canopy, benefiting from the humid and shaded environment.

Water

Maintain consistently moist soil for Peperomia maculosa ‘Vanilla’, allowing the top inch to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the potting mix offers excellent drainage. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, reducing the frequency in autumn and winter.

Light

This plant prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may hinder growth and reduce leaf vibrancy. Placing the plant near an east or north-facing window is ideal to provide adequate illumination without the risk of direct sun exposure.

Humidity

Peperomia maculosa ‘Vanilla’ thrives in moderate humidity levels, ideally between 50% and 60%. To maintain this indoors, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a tray filled with water and pebbles, ensuring the pot’s base doesn’t touch the water. Regular misting can also help maintain humidity levels.

Temperature

Maintain indoor temperatures between 18C and 24C (65F to 75F) for optimal growth. Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 15C (59F), as prolonged exposure to cold can cause stress and damage. Keep the plant away from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations to ensure its well-being.
