Description
Bulbophyllum falcatum ‘Green Form’ is an epiphytic orchid native to tropical West Africa, including countries such as Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, the Congo, Uganda, and the island of Prncipe. In its natural habitat, it thrives in mountainous regions at elevations ranging from 300 to 910 metres. This species is characterised by its distinctive sickle-shaped leaves and unique inflorescences, which bear small flowers aligned horizontally along a flattened, undulating rachis.
Native to: Tropical West Africa, specifically Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, the Congo, Uganda, and Prncipe.
Water: Maintain consistent moisture in the growing medium, ensuring it remains damp but not waterlogged. Watering frequency may vary depending on indoor conditions, but generally, watering once or twice a week is sufficient. Ensure the potting mix provides excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
Light: Provide filtered, diffused light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf burn. Placing the plant near an east or north-facing window with sheer curtains can help achieve the appropriate light levels.
Humidity: This orchid prefers high humidity levels, ideally above 70% throughout most of the year. To maintain such humidity indoors consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a humidity tray. Given its high humidity requirements and smaller size, Bulbophyllum falcatum ‘Dark Form’ is well-suited for cultivation in terrariums.
Temperature: Favouring moderate warmth, this species thrives with daytime temperatures between 23C and 27C and nighttime temperatures between 18C and 20C. Maintaining a consistent temperature range with a slight drop at night will support healthy growth.
