Red chokeberry (Aronia arbutifolia) is a beautiful multi-stem native deciduous shrub that is finally gaining the recognition it deserves with the rising popularity of native plants. There are so many things to love about this plant:  clusters of white spring blooms, disease-free glossy green summer foliage, brilliant red fall color, and clusters of bright red berries that cling on through winter. Unlike our native winterberry shrubs, birds do not pick this plant clean. The brilliant red fall foliage makes this native shrub is a perfect alternative to horribly invasive burning bush (Euonymous alata).
